A year ago the whole of the Virginia baseball universe was thrown on its head following the departure of Brian O’Connor to Mississippi State after 22 seasons in Charlottesville. The program was coming off a historically disappointing season, beginning the year ranked No. 2 in the country and then missing the NCAA Tournament altogether for just the third time in O’Connor’s tenure.
