two Q's: 1. why does UVA list him as a freshman and the above says only one year of eligibility left? 2. is he our oldest player ever?

  He is a freshman. It's his first year in the program or in any college. He has one year of eligibility remaining because of NCAA ruling on his eligibility related to time played in Europe. No, he is no the oldest player ever at UVA. He's not even the oldest on this team. As noted in the article: "De Ridder is the fifth-oldest player on the Virginia roster behind Devin Tillis (24), Malik Thomas (24), Dallin Hall (23), and Jacari White (23)."
