When the Virginia basketball team officially begins its season in early November, it will mark the first games of a new era. After the preseason retirement of Tony Bennett and an interim year with Ron Sanchez last season, the Hoos hired Ryan Odom to take the helm and his first season is now in sight.

UVA finished 15-17 last season with an 8-12 record in ACC play while navigating the departure of Bennett, the winningest coach in program history. With Odom now at the head of the table, this year will be a blend of new and nostalgia. The latter comes from Odom’s ties to the program as a ball boy when his father was an assistant to Terry Holland. The new goes beyond Odom as the Cavaliers experienced a roster turnover this offseason that brought in 12 new players with only 3 returnees.
