This is not the June many Virginia baseball fans were dreaming about going back as far as a year ago.

Fresh off their third College World Series Appearance in four years, the Cavaliers were returning the majority of their roster and were bringing in one of the highest-rated recruiting classes in 22 years under Brian O’Connor. The MLB Draft was kind to Virginia for once, allowing stalwarts like Jay Woolfolk, Harrison Didawick, and Jacob Ference to return for another shot at Omaha, while prospects like Tomas Valincius and James Nunnallee also made their way to Grounds. UVA was ranked as the preseason No. 2 team in the country and O’Connor was fresh off signing a new contract extension making him one of the highest paid coaches in the ACC.
