Thanks JHoo! I appreciate the way you explain complicated points so that non-experts like me can understand without having to know the "lingo" of various systems and concepts.

I reupped Edge just to read this post and it didn’t disappoint. This is an excelllent synopsis of the offensive philosophy and addresses a lot of the concerns I have about the first few games, and also reinforces what is so exciting about the defensive approach. I’m a little concerned about our early recruiting returns but they are just that; early.

Your comments are comprehensive for sure but predictably slanted toward Pollyanna. Could have epitomized, “it will all be OK”. Maybe it will. I am optimistic - longer term - about Elliott’s offensive “process”, but not with the current group. Your initial comments that last year’s offensive approach negatively impacted the defense is absurd. The defense was porous and usually out of position. Eating up 400+ yards of offense per game provided ample rest time. With the current offense, 3 and out or a fumble or a drop or two is to be expected and consistently puts the D on the field. Irrespective, the D performs much more admirably than last year. If Bryce Perkins can barely cling to a spot in the NFL, Armstrong, regrettably, has no chance whatever the scheme this year.

Removed the unnecessary snark. As paying subscribers, please treat each other and writing contributors with respect. All are interested Hoo fans and not just spitting into the wind like on Twitter. Opinion is fine and that was left intact.

Do you have anything to say about the offense not using as much pre-snap motion which might help Brennan read the defense better?

No mention of the LB’s when discussing the defense. Interested to know your thoughts there. Nick Jackson has been pretty dependable and (I thought) Hunter Stewart looked pretty good filling in after Jackson went out. Ahearn is solid. But frankly lacks some of the athleticism, and especially the speed needed particularly in coverage. It seemed to me that James Jackson, particularly against Richmond, appeared to be taking a lot of “false steps” that were often taking Jim out of position and he was having some degree of difficulty getting off blocks. What are you seeing?

I think Dubois is a prime example of your observation about whether successful players in this previous UVa Offense do or do not have the meddle for the next level.
