The Virginia basketball team pulled out a 54-52 victory against Virginia Tech on Wednesday night at the John Paul Jones Arena. The Hoos held the Hokies to a single basket in the final 4:55 and got clutch baskets or free throws from four different players over the same span to secure the win. The story of the game turned out to be redshirt junior Francisco Caffaro, who led the team with 16 points and 9 rebounds on 5-7 shooting and 6-10 free throws. Every single one of those numbers represent a new career high for the big man. He also physically battled Tech star Keve Aluma and that may have contributed to a 9-20 shooting night with 3 turnovers, though Aluma did put up 22 points and 3 assists too.
