Terence Brown was a mainstay on BYU’s offensive line from 2009-2011, earning 39 starts for then-Cougars head coach Bronco Mendenhall. Fast forward a decade, and Brown was in contact with his former coach regarding another offensive line prospect ... his brother, Joe Brown.
Mendenhall, who is entering his sixth season as University of Virginia football head coach, and UVA offensive line coach Garett Tujague expressed interest in the younger Brown, a class of 2022 prospect out of Lone Peak High School in American Fork, Utah. Asked what stood out to the UVA coaches about his ability, Joe said: “The nastiness they saw in the film and my athleticism.”
The 6’3”, 285-pound rising senior was offered an opportunity to visit UVA and perform in front of the Cavalier coaches in person on June 3. He took advantage, earning a scholarship offer “following a great workout with Coach Tujague.” The next day, Brown earned an offer from NC State following a workout while on a visit in Raleigh.

Brown, who stands 6’3” and weighs in at 285 pounds, was offered by Virginia as an interior offensive lineman. He committed to UVA over offers from BYU, Indiana, and NC State following an official visit in Charlottesville June 25-27. Center "probably" will be his future position with the Hoos, Brown said.
The 247Sports.com 3-star prospect will be the third member of his family to play for Coach Mendenhall. In addition to Terence, Rhen Brown played wide receiver at BYU from 2009-2011. Joe won’t suit up for the Hoos until 2024 because he plans on taking a two-year LDS mission immediately after high school, but he’s excited about being a Cavalier nonetheless.
“The program is great,” Brown wrote via Twitter direct message. “They’re always pushing you to be the best you can be. I love that. Tujague has high energy and is always helping his guys out with whatever they need. Bronco is the coach that will push you to be better in every way and I love that! UVA would help me develop into the best football player, student, and person!”
Following a standout junior season, Brown earned Class 6A All-State honorable mention honors. He followed up with top performances on the camp/combine circuit prior to the in-person college workouts. At the 2021 Under Armour All-American Camp in Phoenix, Brown was named offensive line MVP.
