Virginia basketball fans usually anticipate the return to the court following exams, but the Hoos may have a little more eagerness this year.
After 10 days without basketball, the Cavaliers exit the exam break with a blockbuster matchup on tap for Saturday at the John Paul Jones Arena. No. 2 UVA hosts No. 5 Houston at 2 p.m. on ESPN2. Houston will be the highest-ranked non-ACC team to ever play the Hoos in Charlottesville. It's also the first matchup of top 5 teams at JPJ since 2019 (No. 2 Duke vs. No. 3 UVA). The Cougars won last year's meeting in Texas with a 67-47 rout in an early season matchup on Nov. 16.
Considering a capacity crowd pumped energy into the building two weeks ago for Florida State, this game figures to be an even more rowdy atmosphere with the rankings involved. The long break has only added to the anticipation and there's payback hopes on the minds of fans too. There's certainly been a lot of chatter on The Sabre message boards about the game.
