The Virginia and Virginia Tech season-opening rivalry game is now one week away. The ACC and its media partners announced Friday that the Saturday, Sept. 19 game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on ABC. This is the earliest date for the rivalry clash since 1987 when the teams also met on Sept. 19 (UVA won 14-13).

With the game inching closer, fans are getting excited about the showdown. The Cavaliers ended a 15-year losing streak in last season’s matchup and are looking for their first win in Blacksburg since the comeback of 1998. This year’s road trip won’t include the typical Lane Stadium crowd, however, as state guidelines with the ongoing pandemic have limited attendance.

Fans on the message board have been creating threads with some good discussion about the game this week. Some examples are in threads here, here, and here. Select posts are highlighted below.
