After returning to the college basketball world as a coach first at Virginia and then at Nevada over the last year and a half, Final Four legend Kyle Guy has decided to head back to professional basketball. UVA fans continue to root for the long-time fan favorite as he makes the move.

Guy is signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Indiana Pacers, Nevada announced on social media as he departed the program there. NBA teams are only allowed to carry 15 players on NBA contracts plus 3 players on two-way contracts (G League and NBA combo deals) during the regular season, but they can have a roster size of 21 players in the offseason. Exhibit 10 contracts allow the organization to bring in extra players to camp to audition for the regular season roster on the main club or with the team’s G League affiliate. Many Exhibit 10 contracts also contain a bonus clause that can rise to as high as $85,300.

An Exhibit 10 contract essentially begins as a training camp contract, but it could develop into more. Players could sign with the organization’s G League team only, could sign a two-way deal (can be transferred back and forth between the NBA and NBAGL throughout the season for up to 50 NBA regular season games in most cases), or could sign a two-way deal that then gets converted to a standard NBA contract. To be eligible for a two-way deal, a player must have fewer than four years of NBA experience.

So what does all of that mean for Guy? According to The Indianapolis Star and Dustin Dopirak, the plan is for Guy to help kickstart Indiana’s G League affiliate in its new home as the Noblesville Boom. Previously, the Boom were the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and the Indiana Mad Ants with UVA’s own Justin Anderson playing with the Fort Wayne version for parts of the 2021-2023 seasons. The Pacers are coached by former Virginia player Rick Carlisle.

Guy, of course, is a legend both in Indiana and Virginia. In high school, he was named Indiana’s Mr. Basketball and a McDonald’s All-American. He starred at Lawrence Central High School just 25 minutes from Noblesville. After arriving at UVA, Guy cemented his legacy with a 3-year career that included being named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2019 NCAA Tournament as the Hoos won the National Championship.

Guy went on to play for the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat after the Kings selected him with the 55th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft. He appeared in a total of 53 games in three seasons and averaged 3.1 points on 30.3% 3-point shooting. He eventually went overseas

Guy played two seasons with Sacramento after being selected with the 55th pick in the 2019 draft. He also spent part of the 2021/22 season with Miami before heading overseas. He spent some time with Joventut Badalona, Panathinaikos, and Tenerife before stepping away to return to Virginia as a special assistant and mentor for the 2024-2025 season. He landed at Nevada after the coaching changes at UVA this past spring.

That wasn’t the only big news for Guy this past week, though. He announced on his social media that he had officially completed his academic work at the University of Virginia. He shared a photo of his diploma as well.
