The Virginia football team has been active in the transfer portal as it works to restock the roster following a historic 11-3 season. While UVA may not add as many players as last season’s 31 transfers, the single portal window this offseason has increased the urgency this winter.

On offense, the Hoos needed to fill in multiple positions with the most prominent being quarterback after the NCAA denied an appeal by Chandler Morris for an additional year of eligibility. They also lost backups in Daniel Kaelin and Grady Brosterhous. UVA found an answer in Missouri transfer Beau Pribula on Monday night.

Pribula started for Missouri this past season, playing in 10 games while missing some time with an injury and sitting out the Gator Bowl once he decided to enter the portal. Virginia was rumored to be interested at that time in the lead-up to the game with the Hoos defeating the Tigers 13-7. Pribula completed 182 of 270 passes (67.4%) in 10 games this season for 1,941 yards with 11 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also rushed for 297 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Prior to Missouri, Pribula played at Penn State. He redshirted in 2022, but then had a niche role in 2023 and 2024. In 23 games across those two seasons, he attempted just 56 passes but ran the ball 94 times. Through the air, he had 9 touchdowns with 1 interception but he added 10 rushing touchdowns.

The 6’2”, 215-pound senior enters as the likely starter for the Wahoos. They feature Boone Lourd, Bjorn Jurgensen, and Cole Geer as underclassmen on the roster last season. All three of those players have multiple years of eligibility remaining.

Pribula joins other transfers on offense this offseason. The Cavaliers knew they needed running backs after J’Mari Taylor and Harrison Waylee, this year’s leading rushers, both finished their college football careers and other returning players have some injury history. They brought in Tennessee running back Peyton Lewis and Middle Tennessee running back Jekail Middlebrook earlier in this cycle.

Since that duo joined, UVA also picked up University of Alabama at Birmingham back Solomon Beebe. The 5’10”, 205-pound junior brings more versatility to the position. He had 56 carries for 338 yards and a team-leading 6 touchdowns last fall in addition to 31 catches for 284 yards. Beebe also provides special teams options as a kick returner with 24 returns for 600 yards last season. That fills in for the departure of receiver Cam Ross, who finished his career. Beebe had 100+ all-purpose yards in 7 of 12 games in 2025.

Another spot that looked like it needed some depth was tight end. The Cavaliers lost Sage Ennis as he completed his career, while Dakota Twitty will be coming back from an injury after becoming a starter last season. John Rogers is expected to be the only other returning tight end with significant experience on offense.

Virginia addressed this need with North Carolina transfer Connor Cox. Prior to that, he played at South Carolina for two seasons. The 6’6”, 250-pound redshirt junior had a limited pass-catching role at either stop. He has 6 catches for 30 yards and 1 touchdown in his career. With the Heels last season, however, he did play 249 snaps with 152 being as a run blocker. That gives UVA the flexibility to go with some of the two tight end sets in likes on offense.

The biggest question mark for this transfer portal window, though, has been receiver. The Hoos saw Trell Harris, Andre Greene Jr., Suderian Harrison, Kameron Courtney, and Eli Wood all enter the portal looking for new opportunities. While Harris and Wood had the biggest roles on that list, the offense still lost a lot of depth with that movement. The return of Jahmal Edrine kept one experienced option in the mix with youngsters like Dillon Newton-Short, Josiah Abdullah, and Isaiah Robinson all coming off their freshman season.

On Tuesday, Virginia came up with an incoming transfer at the receiver spot in UCLA’s Rico Flores Jr. He brings three years of experience to the Cavaliers after playing one season with Notre Dame and two seasons with UCLA.

A four-star recruit out of Folsom High School in California (201 receptions for 3,222 yards and 32 touchdowns), he made two starts as a true freshman with the Irish. He had 27 catches for 392 yards and 1 touchdown that season. After transferring to the Bruins, he made four starts in 2024 with 12 catches for 187 yards before an injury ended his season. Last fall, the 6’2”, 205-pound receiver started eight games on the way to 26 catches for 274 yards. He didn’t return from the 2024 injury until game four this past season.
