Virginia football season begins Saturday with the first of seven home games at Scott Stadium. The Cavaliers host Coastal Carolina for the first time ever with a 6 p.m. scheduled kickoff on the ACC Network.
As always, the season opener at home begins with Paint The Town Orange. The team will wear orange uniforms for the game. Fans are asked to wear orange for the game and there is a Friday night pep rally on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall as well that begins at 8 p.m. That event, featuring the marching band, spirit squads, coach Tony Elliott, and the team, is free to the public. The band and spirit squads march the mall beginning at approximately 7:40 p.m. leading to the pep rally.
The excitement for the season opener carries over from there. Virginia has won seven of its last eight season openers as a program. The Hoos are looking to win their home opener for the third time under Coach Elliott as well, defeating Richmond in both 2022 an 2024.
With the season about to kick off, Cavalier fans have been discussing the opener and the season ahead on the message board.
- It's time to see what we've got!!!! I want to see a tough, disciplined team that wins the line of scrimmage on offense and defense. I want to see a sharp special teams effort. I want to see a big time running game. I want to see us pressuring their quarterback. I want to see our receivers getting separation and securing the ball. Am I asking for too much????

- Either we'll be shocked at the attendance Saturday or the Athletic Dep't is truly worried about a tiny crowd for the season opener.
- Ticket office doing like the airlines ... you can upgrade your seat for $17.50 on top of what you've already paid, & move your seat from the upper level to one of the empty seats they have available in the lower bowl.
- So much anticipation. Can’t hardly bear it. We could win 9 or we could win 4.

Other games this season have designated fan promotions as well. The William & Mary game on Sept. 13 is a UVA Strong game and fans are encouraged to wear white; the first 25,000 fans will receive a white UVA Strong T-Shirt. The Florida State game on Sept. 26 (Friday) is a True Blue game and fans are encouraged to wear blue. Homecomings at Virginia is set for Oct. 18 against Washington State, which is also a Breast Cancer Awareness game, and Family Weekend is set for Nov. 8 against Wake Forest, which is also a Heroes Appreciation game.
