Preseason predictions did not project many wins for the he Virginia football team this season. Many of the odds placed the season win total at over/under 4.5 wins for UVA. Some pessimistic guesses saw no way for the Hoos to surpass 3 wins, much less beat those odds.
Last Saturday’s win at Pittsburgh not only snapped a three-game losing streak, it also claimed gave the Hoos 5 wins for the season. That obviously beat the Vegas preseason odds. At 5-4 with three games to play, though, the Hoos have a chance for more and they’re now one victory away from bowl eligibility too.

A poll sounds like a good idea.
The Hoos haven’t actually played in a bowl since the 2019 Orange Bowl. They were eligible in 2020 and 2021, but pandemic complications nixed both opportunities. Getting there is Tony Elliott’s third year would be a solid shift back to that baseline after consecutive 3-win campaigns. Can they get there?
The Cavaliers travel to Notre Dame this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and then return to Scott Stadium to host Southern Methodist on Saturday, Nov. 23 at noon. The season finale is at Virginia Tech on Saturday, Nov. 30. Those teams stack up like this: ND (8-1), SMU (8-1), and VT (5-5). The Irish current sit at No. 8 in the College Football Playoff rankings, while the Mustangs are 14th.
In other words, three tough games remain. Vote and let us know if you think the Wahoos pull off at least one more win to reach the bowl cutoff line.
