While all game times are not announced in advance due to television demands, the Virginia football team learned when it would play a third of its schedule this week. The scheduled kickoff times for the first three games of the season as well as the road tilt at Notre Dame in November all became public this week.
UVA’s road game at Notre Dame on Saturday, Nov. 16 was announced first with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on NBC/Peacock. The ACC also released schedule details for the conference’s early season games. Later kickoffs will be a theme for the Hoos’ first three games.
For Virginia, the season opener against Richmond on Saturday, August 31 has been set for 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. The Hoos last opened with an evening game at Scott Stadium in 2021 against William & Mary in what was a 7:30 kickoff time.
The Cavaliers play their ACC opener at Wake Forest on Saturday, Sept. 7. That game is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2. UVA then returns home the following week on Saturday, Sept. 14 for an 8 p.m. game against Maryland on the ACC Network.
The home games on Saturday night are a change from last season’s schedule. The Hoos did not have any Saturday night home games last season, though it did host a Friday night game against NC State. In 2022, UVA did not have any Saturday night home games either. In 2021, however, Virginia hosted William & Mary as mentioned above in the opener before also playing Georgia Tech and Notre Dame at 7:30 later in the season at Scott Stadium. The Hoos also faced Wake Forest in a Friday night game in 2021.
With the new lighting system installed last season and an upgraded video and sound system debuting this season, it could boost the game day experience for Cavalier fans. Remember, it’s less than 100 days until kickoff!
