The start of the 2024 season remains a little more than three months away when the Virginia football team kicks off against Richmond on August 31. While that serves as this season's opener, details about some future schedules for the Cavaliers emerged this past week.
On Wednesday, UVA announced future non-conference games with NC State and VMI. Greg Madia also reported in The Daily Progress this week that UVA is scheduled to open the 2028 season at Old Dominion. All three games serve as short trips with regional interest for fans.
The home-and-home series with the Wolfpack comes up first with a Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025 game in Raleigh. Virginia will host the return game at a to be determined date in 2026. While the two teams both play in the ACC, these will not be part of the league standings as non-con games.
The Cavaliers will renew their series with VMI on Nov. 23 in 2030 and Nov. 20 in 2032. Virginia has not hosted VMI since 2013, but the two teams met every year from 1919 to 1970.
Finally, the ODU contest is reportedly scheduled for Sept. 2. The Hoos faced the Monarchs in 2019 and 2022 in a pair of close games at Scott Stadium. UVA won 28-17 in 2019 after trailing 17-0 early. Virginia won the 2022 game 16-14 on a last-second field goal.
