The Virginia football program’s June recruiting streak continued with its seventh class of 2027 commitment this month. Tajeh Watson, a receiver out of South Carolina, made the call for the Cavaliers on Thursday.

With Watson in the fold, Hoos now have 12 commitments in this class. Defensive end Andy Stedem, tight end James Westervelt, tight end Mason Hall, quarterback Lonnie Andrews III, receiver Landon Hicks, offensive tackle Moreno Fisher, edge rusher Camden Chalkley, defensive lineman Gene Jones, and defensive backs Derek Fisher, Zayvon Miller, and Semajay Robinson along with Watson make up the current list.

Watson continued a run of out-of-state commitments for the Cavaliers. Watson (South Carolina), Stedem (Connecticut), Westervelt (Maryland), Hall (Georgia), Robinson (Florida), and Moreno Fisher (North Carolina) all committed this month. The first six commitments in this class all came from from Virginia high schools (Huguenot, Manchester, Oscar Smith, Bethel, Hampton).

Both 247 Sports and On3 rate Watson as a 3-star recruit. 247 ranks him as the No. 18 prospect in South Carolina, while On3 places him at No. 21. The latest commitment drew a lot of interest on the recruiting trail. Watson had offers from Stanford, Duke, NC State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest just within the ACC. Other programs with reported offers were Arkansas, Colorado, Maryland, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and more. After picking up those offers this spring, Watson made several visits but left his UVA visit feeling like it was the right fit.

He built that interest at Belton-Honea Path High School where he posted 58 catches for 1,101 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior per MaxPreps.com. He added 2 rushing TDs too plus 27 tackles and 4 interceptions on defense. Competing in track and field, Watson’s Hudl profile shows a 10.9 time in the 100-meter dash and a 4.45 for the 40-yard dash. He has decided to transfer to Westside High School for his senior season.

Watson became the second receiver recruit in the class of 2027 for the Hoos, joining Hicks from Trinity Epsiscopal in Richmond. A 5’10”, 170-pound receiver, he projects as an option for the slot position in UVA’s scheme. Malik Washington, Cam Ross, and Kam Courtney have found some success in that spot for Virginia.
