The Virginia football program remained hot on the high school recruiting trail with its fourth commitment of June on Tuesday night. Mason Hall, a 2027 tight end out of Georgia, chose the Cavaliers after an official visit with the school over the weekend.

Hall became the ninth commitment from the class. Projecting to the offense, he joins quarterback Lonnie Andrews III, receiver Landon Hicks, and tackle Moreno Fisher on that side of the ball. UVA also picked up edge rusher Camden Chalkley, defensive lineman Gene Jones, and defensive backs Derek Fisher, Zayvon Miller, and Semajay Robinson as players projected to the defense.

Hall became the third out-of-state commitment in this class. All three committed this week. Hall followed Robinson’s announcement out of Florida and Moreno Fisher’s announcement out of the state of North Carolina. The first six commitments all came from from Virginia high schools (Huguenot, Manchester, Oscar Smith, Bethel, Hampton).

A 3-star recruit per 247 Sports and On3, Hall drew interest from multiple schools. Duke, NC State, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Louisville, and Wake Forest were among the ACC schools in the recruiting picture. Other schools that offered included Texas, Purdue, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Illinois, and many more.

The 6’4”, 220-pound tight end built that interest through his play at Oconee County High School in Georgia. Through his first three years, Hall has posted 119 catches for 1,545 yards and 12 touchdowns per MaxPreps.com. That included two big seasons in a row. As a sophomore, he piled up 58 catches for 736 yards and 6 touchdowns and followed it up with 43 receptions for 625 yards and 5 touchdowns as a junior.

For Virginia, this continues to build the long-term plan at tight end. The 2026 roster includes graduate students Dakota Twitty and Lukas Ungar, seniors Connor Cox and Hayden Rollison, and junior Henry Omohundro listed as upperclassmen and three sophomores in John Rogers, Willem Thurber, and Justin Zames. The Hoos did not take a high school recruit in 2026, deciding instead to bring in Ungar and Cox as transfers. That makes Hall the first high school tight end recruit since Thurber and Zames in 2025.

Tight ends have become increasingly productive under offensive coordinator Des Kitchings, who played college football at Furman with Mason Hall’s father. In 2022 and 2023, UVA’s top two tight ends each season combined for 41 catches with 0 touchdowns. In 2024 and 2025, however, the top two tight ends end season combined for 81 catches and 8 touchdowns. Tight end Sage Ennis tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns last season with 5.
