The Virginia football program kept its June momentum going with its third high school recruiting win of the month on Tuesday. Semajay Robinson, a 2027 defensive back out of Florida, made the call for the Cavaliers. The Hoos now have eight commitments in this class.
Robinson originally had committed to Penn State in March, but flipped his decision following official visits to both schools the last two weekends. He joined fellow defensive back Zayvon Miller and offensive lineman Moreno Fisher as high school prospects picking UVA this month.
Robinson shared his announcement decision on social media.
Penn State and Virginia were part of a long list of suitors. Robinson also carried offers from Florida State, Louisville, Boston College, North Carolina, and others within the ACC as well as Auburn, Colorado, South Florida, Missouri, Texas Tech, UCLA, and more. UVA offered in February. Rivals gave Robinson a 4-star ranking as the No. 26 recruit in the state of Florida, while 247 Sports had him rated as a 3-star prospect at No. 137 in his home state.
Robinson built those credentials at Boyd Anderson High School as a sophomore and Palm Beach Central High School as a junior. The 6'2", 190-pound rising senior has transferred to Dillard High School ahead of his final high school season. Per MaxPreps.com, he had 11 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 2 sacks at Boyd Anderson and 17 tackles with a pass breakup at Palm Beach Central.
For Virginia, this commitment adds to a focus on the secondary in this recruiting cycle. The Hoos have picked up three commitments from defensive backs in the 2027 class. Defensive back Derek Fisher committed last October, while Miller and Robinson joined the list this month.
UVA lists 16 players as upperclassman in the secondary on its 2026 roster so there is a need to fill in the future years. The Cavaliers play five defensive backs frequently in their scheme. They also use secondary players heavily on special teams.
Robinson became just the second out-of-state commitment so far for this class. Both committed this week as Robinson followed Moreno Fisher’s announcement out of the state of North Carolina on Monday. The first six commitments all came from from Virginia high schools (Huguenot, Manchester, Oscar Smith, Bethel, Hampton).
