The Virginia football team made a late addition from the transfer portal with tight end Lukas Ungar. UVA has picked up 13 players on offense during this cycle.
Ungar will be in his seventh year of college football after previous stops at New Mexico State and Stanford. He started his career with the Cardinal back in 2020, but that season did not count toward eligibility due to the pandemic freeze. He made 18 appearances at Stanford in total with only one game in 2022 and no games in 2024. At New Mexico State in 2025, he appeared in 8 games before an injury ended his season. The 2022, 2024, and 2025 years would only count as one year of eligibility with a traditional redshirt year and a medical hardship waiver for another year.
At Stanford, Ungar made 3 catches for 13 yards. Last season with the Aggies, he had 3 catches for 14 yards.
Ungar joined North Carolina transfer Connor Cox as incoming tight end transfers. Both bring multiple years of college experience to the position as the Hoos prepare to replace Sage Ennis, who completed his eligibility. The only other tight ends with signficant in-game experience are John Rogers and Dakota Twitty, who suffered a season-ending injury in game six at Louisville this past season. In addition to Ungar's 26 career games, Cox has played in 18 games at South Carolina then North Carolina. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
That pushed UVA's total commitments to 28 transfers this cycle. The 13 players on offense include the two tight ends in Ungar and Cox, two quarterbacks, two linemen, three running backs, and four receivers. Like Ungar and Cox, most of those additions have experience.
At quarterback, Beau Pribula started at Missouri last season and posted 1,941 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and 9 interceptions plus 297 rushing yards with 6 touchdowns. Eli Holstein was on the roster at Alabama and Pittsburgh previously. He stated 10 games with Pitt in 2024 on the way to 2,228 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and 7 interceptions and 328 rushing yards with 3 touchdowns. Last season, Holstein played in eight games with 1,081 passing yards with 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions plus 88 rushing yards with 1 touchdown.
At running back, Jekail Middlebrook recorded 1,228 all-purpose yards with 7 touchdowns at Middle Tennessee State last season. Tennessee's Peyton Lewis had 70 carries for 290 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2025. UAB's Solomon Beebe tallied 1,222 all purpose yards (338 rush, 284 receiving, 600 kick return) last season at UAB. He was the only player at the Football Bowl Subdivision level and the first since 2023 to rush for 6 touchdowns and accumulate 600 kick return yards in the same season.
At receiver, Rico Flores Jr. started 16 games over three seasons at UCLA and Notre Dame with 65 receptions for 853 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Da'Shawn Martin started 10 games for Kent State in 2025 on the way to 33 receptions, 507 receiving yards, and 4 touchdowns. Jacquon Gibson led UMass with 63 catches for 616 receiving yards last season. Finally, Tyson Davis posted 25 catches for 323 yards and 2 touchdowns at Central Michigan.
The only two players with limited experience came on the offensive line. Ryan Brubaker played mostly a reserve role while battling injuries at South Carolina. Alex Payne did not see action as a true freshman last year at Southern Cal.
