For the second straight day, the Virginia football team picked up an offensive lineman from the transfer portal. Illinois transfer Kevin Wigenton II made the call for the Cavaliers on Tuesday, joining JMU's Tyshawn Wyatt after he committed on Monday.

Wigenton announced his decision on social media and Virginia released that he has officially signed.

Wigenton spent one year at Illinois where he played a limited role this past season. Pro Football Focus tagged him for 36 snaps in 2024. He got a 62.7 pass blocking grade this season, which came on just 12 snaps. At his prior stop, he played in 16 games with six starts for Michigan State in 2022 2023. He redshirted there in 2021. For the 2023 season, he played 501 snaps on offense with 290 pass blocking where he received a 64.3 in the data. He did post a 69.3 or higher pass blocking grade in six games.

A three-star recruit out of high school after playing two years at The Hun School, he was considered the No. 2 offensive lineman coming out of New Jersey. 247 Sports ranked him as the No. 25 player in the state and as a top 100 interior offensive lineman for the 2021 class.

This addition is the latest focus on the trenches from UVA this offseason. The Hoos have added three total offensive linemen with Wigenton, Wyatt, and UAB transfer Brady Wilson. On the other side of the ball, they've dipped into the portal for defensive linemen Jacob Holmes (Fresno State), Cazeem Moore (Elon), and Hunter Osborne (Alabama). They also picked up Fisher Camac as a hybrid edge rusher/linebacker from UNLV.

A glance at the rankings provides a clear need for those additions. The Hoos ranked 123rd and 132nd nationally the past two seasons in sacks allowed. On the flipside, the defense ranked 108th (tie) last season and 132nd (tied for last nationally) in 2023 for sacks.
