The Virginia football team's transfer portal run continued Monday night when it added its 13th commitment of this cycle. UNLV transfer Fisher Camac became the seventh addition on defense when he made the call for the Cavaliers.
Camac announced his decision on social media and Virginia released that he has officially signed.
Camac visited UVA last week and quickly moved to join the program. Listed as a linebacker on the Hoos' official signing day page, Camac is likely to be a hybrid option in the BANDIT role for John Rudzinski's defense. He joins Hunter Osborne (defensive tackle), Jacob Holmes (defensive line), Cazeem Moore (defensive end), and Maddox Marcellus (linebacker) as transfer additions to the front seven.
The 6'7", 250-pound defender posted 8.5 sacks with 16.5 tackles for loss in total while at UNLV. That included a breakout campaign this past fall when he made 7.5 sacks among 46 total tackles for the Running Rebels as they made a run to the Mountain West Championship Game. He also had 5 pass breakups and a forced fumble in 2024.
Camac, who has two years of eligibility remaining, continues a trend with those numbers. It's clear from the portal pickups that Virginia is targeting players that can be disruptive up front. Holmes tallied 46 tackles with 8.5 sacks as a DT at Fresno State, while Moore recorded 106 tackles with 13 sacks on the edge for Elon. Osborne played in only four games at tackle for Alabama, but had 24 quarterback hurries as a high school senior. These additions will try to help reverse a two-year slump at pass rush as the Hoos ranked 108th (tie) last season and 132nd (tied for last nationally) in 2023 for sacks.
With that area of need addressed, the Hoos will continue to look for at least one more offensive lineman, receiver, and defensive back in the transfer portal. Each of those position groups has had a player visit or scheduled to visit so far in January.
