As the second week of the December transfer portal nears a close, the Virginia football team remains open for business. The Cavaliers added their 10th pickup in this cycle with Purdue receiver Jahmal Edrine making the call. He visited UVA this week.

The Hoos added multiple skill position players on offense from the portal this month. Edrine joins Chandler Morris (QB), Daniel Kaelin (QB), and J’Mari Taylor (RB) as commits on offense so far. The Cavaliers also picked up Brady Wilson (C) on the offensive line, a position they remain interested in on the recruiting trail.

Edrine led Purdue's wide receivers with 23 catches for 365 yards and 2 touchdowns (10 games). He had 5 catches for 87 yards against Michigan State. He sat out 2023 after a season-ending injury in fall practice. He should have two years of eligibility remaining with a medical hardship waiver available. Prior to playing for the Boilermakers, Edrine posted 39 catches for 570 yards and 6 touchdowns at Florida Atlantic in 2022. He was second on the team in all categories. He redshirted at FAU in 2021.

At 6'3", 215 pounds, Edrine brings size to the receiver room. That's an important pickup as Malachi Fields (6'4", 220), JR Wilson (6'4", 212), and Titus Ivy (6'3", 197) each entered the transfer portal. Fields nor Ivy have announced a decision on where to play next season, while Wilson ended up at Florida Atlantic. That leaves Edrine as the tallest receiver currently on the roster, while Andre Greene Jr. (6'2", 202) is the tallest receiver with 2024 production after making 9 catches for 74 yards this past season.

Virginia likely will look at more receivers as well. In addition to the players already mentioned, Chris Tyree completed his eligibility and declared for the NFL Draft, while Jaden Gibson and Ethan Davies entered the transfer portal. CBS Sports' Matt Zennitz reported that Alabama receiver Emmanuel Henderson scheduled a UVA visit this weekend.
