The Hoos On Podcast Postgame Report returns from John Paul Jones Arena. Preston Willett reacts to the Virginia basketball team falling 85-80 to North Carolina with thoughts on a poor display defensively, UNC's second half adjustments, Ryan Odom's decisions, and a few of the bright spots.
UVA led at the half, but saw that lead evaporate quickly to start the second half and ultimately Carolina won a close battle. It marked the first home loss of the season for the Hoos and the first time they lost when winning the rebound battle. They held a 44-28 edge in that category, but lost the 3-point shooting column, points off turnovers, and other key stats.
Thijs De Ridder led Virginia with 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Malik Thomas, Sam Lewis, and Chance Mallory all chipped in 11 points. Dallin Hall and Ugonna Onyenso had 8 points each. The Tar Heels got a big outing from Caleb Wilson with 20 points, while Jarin Stevenson added 17. Seth Trimble (16), Luke Bogavac (14), and Derek Dixon (11) all landed in double figures as well.
