The Virginia women's basketball team continued a busy spring in the transfer portal this weekend. UVA picked up its fifth commitment from this cycle when Florida State guard Raiane Dos Santos made the call for the Cavaliers.
Dos Santos announced her decision on social media.
Dos Santos (5'9") joins South Florida's Romi Levy (6'3"), LSU's Sa’Myah Smith (6’2”), NC State’s Caitlin Weimar (6’4”), and Central Florida’s Adeang Ring (6’5”) as UVA commitments from the transfer portal this spring. Most of those players bring a lot of experience to the table as Virginia coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton looks to break through after three seasons without an NCAA Tournament bid and an overall 48-46 record. Levy started 33 games the past two seasons, Smith started 36 games at LSU, and Weimar started 78 games in three years at Boston while being named the Patriot League Player of the Year in 2024. Weimar sat out last season at NC State after hip surgery.
Dos Santos started only one game at FSU, but started all 33 games for Division II Gulf Coast State College in Florida during the 2023-2024 season. At Gulf Coast, she averaged 11.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 steals. She also hit 33.2% of her 3-point attempts on a high volume of 80-241 shooting. In 11.9 minutes per game for high-paced and high octane Florida State, Dos Santos averaged 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists last season. She shot 30.6% from 3-point range on 11-36 shooting.
The experienced additions give Virginia a lot of potential depth in the backcourt and on the wings. Levy, Smith, and Dos Santos can all play from the perimeter where UVA returns multiple options as well. Kymora Johnson, a first-team All-ACC pick and a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention honoree as well, leads that group after averaging 17.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists last season. She is the only Cavalier that started all 32 games last season. Paris Clark started 23 times and averaged 10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds. Breona Hurd started 17 games and averaged 9.4 points and 5.0 rebounds. Olivia McGhee started 18 games and averaged 7.7 points and 2.5 rebounds.
The Cavaliers did lose multiple players to the transfer portal, most notably Latasha Lattimore to Ole Miss. She finished second on the team at 14.3 points per game and led the Hoos at 8.2 rebounds per game. Edessa Noyan (Indiana), RyLee Grays (Tulsa), Payton Dunbar (Providence), and Casey Valenti-Paea (undecided) also entered the portal.
